The Quiet Moments: Why I Fell for the Shadow Lynx

Two days to go, and I have a confession.

When people ask what The Shadow Lynx's Unexpected Mate is about, I usually start with the big stuff: a stolen relic, a half-fae thief, a lynx shifter enforcer, a magical bond neither of them wanted. All true. But that is not the part that got me.

A chipped mug of coffee

Early in the book, the two of them are holed up in a cramped room above a shop. Streetlight through the window. She hands him a chipped mug of coffee, their fingers brush, and he flinches.

That is it. That is the scene. And it is the one I think about most.

Rowan is an enforcer. Controlled, guarded, never wasting a movement. He can face down a room full of trouble without blinking. What he cannot handle is someone being kind to him without wanting something back.

The step he does not think about

Not long after, a stranger moves too close to Kira, and Rowan is in front of her before he has made a decision. He was sent to bring her in. His body seems to have other ideas.

I love writing that gap: the space between what a character believes about himself and what he actually does when it matters.

Slow burn, high stakes

If you love a protective hero who would rather die than admit he is protective, a heroine who uses humor as armor, and a slow burn where every small touch feels enormous, this is the book.

It is a standalone, so you can start it Friday with no homework.
