Four Days Until Fifteen Feet: Why Forced Proximity Hits Different
Four days.
On Friday, The Shadow Lynx's Unexpected Mate is out in the world, and I want to talk about the part of this book I had the most fun writing: the distance.
Two enemies, one silver thread
Kira is a half-fae thief. Rowan is the lynx shifter enforcer sent to bring her in. They reach for the same relic at the same instant, and the relic answers by binding them together with a thread of silver light. They can drift about fifteen feet apart. Past that, the bond pulls tight and it hurts. Not just her. Both of them.
That one rule changes everything. He cannot hand her over and walk away. She cannot slip out a back window in the night. Every room, every street, every hiding place becomes a shared one.
Why I love forced proximity
Forced proximity strips away the easy exits. In most stories, two people who clash can simply leave. Here, they have to stay, and staying means watching each other up close: the habits, the flinches, the small kindnesses neither of them meant to show. That is where the real tension lives for me. Not in the fight, but in the quiet moments right after.
If you love enemies to lovers, fated mates who very much did not choose this, and a dark paranormal city with teeth, this one was written for you.
A standalone you can start right now
You do not need to have read The Moonfire Legacy or The Eternal Bond Series. This is its own world and its own story, start to finish (though I have a secret… stay tuned for more on that).
